ABOUT TRAFFIC SIGN RECOGNITION

Available Traffic Sign Recognition can display detected speed limit signs in your instrument cluster. The feature can also be set to notify you when you may be speeding or a new sign is detected.

ABOUT TRAFFIC SIGN RECOGNITION

If equipped, Traffic Sign Recognition uses your vehicle’s front camera and embedded navigation systems to recognize certain nearby traffic signs.

Your vehicle will display the detected sign in your centrestack display or Driver Information Centre (DIC), depending on your vehicle.

Traffic Sign Recognition is currently designed to detect posted speed limits only.

The feature may not detect all types of traffic signs and may take a short time to inform you of newly detected signs.

You should not rely only on Traffic Sign Recognition to detect nearby traffic signs. You must remain alert and aware while driving at all times.

When Traffic Sign Recognition detects a new posted speed limit sign, you’ll hear a brief chime. If the feature notices you are moving faster than the posted speed limit, the Speed Limit icon in your DIC will flash and you’ll hear multiple chimes to let you know you are speeding.

You can customize the feature through your vehicle’s Settings menu. Select “Display,” then “Instrument Cluster” and then “Traffic Sign Recognition” to see available options.

Safety or driver assistance features are no substitute for the driver’s responsibility to operate the vehicle in a safe manner. The driver should remain attentive to traffic, surroundings and road conditions at all times. Visibility, weather and road conditions may affect feature performance. Read the vehicle Owner’s Manual for more important feature limitations and information.

Q&As

Will Traffic Sign Recognition automatically detect all traffic signs for me?

No. The feature is designed to detect speed limit signs only. It does not detect “Yield” signs, for example. You must remain alert and aware of your surroundings at all times while driving.

Will Traffic Sign Recognition still work if my front camera is dirty or blocked?

If your vehicle cannot visually detect nearby traffic signs, your vehicle’s embedded navigation system, if equipped, is designed to access traffic sign information contained in GM’s library and inform you of nearby signs.

What should I do if I don’t want to see traffic sign alerts?

You can disable Traffic Sign Recognition in your vehicle’s Settings menu or de-select it in the DIC, depending on your vehicle.

Why isn’t Traffic Sign Recognition working?

Traffic Sign Recognition needs navigation data to work. You must accept the navigation data terms and conditions before the feature can operate. You only need to accept the terms once.

However, if you turn the Offline Maps feature off in the Settings menu, Traffic Sign Recognition will not work.

Also, if you're in an area that is not connected to the network and your vehicle does not have stored offline maps for that area, Traffic Sign Recognition may not work.
