ABOUT REAR PARK ASSIST

Rear Park Assist can provide distance alerts to nearby detected objects behind your vehicle to help you park and avoid collisions when you’re in REVERSE at low speeds.

WHAT IS REAR PARK ASSIST?

Rear Park Assist uses multiple ultrasonic sensors located on your rear bumper. The feature works when you’re in REVERSE.
  • When you’re backing up at low speeds, the sensors may detect objects up to 2.4 metres behind your vehicle
  • When an object is first detected while you’re backing up, Rear Park Assist emits low-pitched beeps from your rear speakers or, if your vehicle is equipped with the Safety Alert Seat, the driver seat pulses twice on both sides of the seat
  • When an object is detected, you’ll hear low-pitched beeps or, if your vehicle is equipped with the Safety Alert Seat, you’ll feel pulses on both sides of the driver seat. The closer your vehicle is to a detected object, you’ll hear more beeps or feel more Safety Alert Seat pulses
  • As your vehicle gets closer to the detected object, your infotainment system display will show distance-to-object information
  • When an object is within 0.6 metres of your rear bumper, you’ll hear five repeating low-pitched beeps from your rear speaker, or, if your vehicle is equipped with the Safety Alert Seat, it pulses five times on both sides
  • When an object is within 0.3 metres of your rear bumper, you’ll hear five low-pitched beeps play from the rear speakers or, if your vehicle is equipped with the Safety Alert Seat, the seat will pulse five times on both sides
  • As your vehicle gets closer to a detected object behind you, you will also see caution triangles that change from yellow to amber to red on the Rear Vision Camera display
  • On some vehicles, the Parking Assist display will also display guidelines that show you the path of your vehicle. On these vehicles, you will only receive alerts of detected objects in your vehicle’s path

You can turn this feature on and off using the Rear Park Assist system control or, in some vehicles, through the vehicle Settings menu.

Rear Park Assist is not designed to detect children, pedestrians, bicyclists, animals or objects below the bumper. You should remember to always check the area around the vehicle before backing up and make sure the ultrasonic Park Assist sensors are clean as well. Locations of these sensors vary by vehicle, so consult your vehicle’s Owner’s Manual for a diagram that shows the location of the feature’s camera sensors and how to clean them. This can be found in the “Driver Assistance Systems” section of the vehicle’s Owner’s Manual.

Q&As

Will Rear Park Assist prevent me from striking pedestrians, including small children?

No. Rear Park Assist isn’t designed to detect children or adults. You should always check for the presence of small children or pedestrians behind your vehicle before shifting into REVERSE.

Will Rear Park Assist stop my vehicle if I get too close to an object?

No. Rear Park Assist won’t stop or slow down your vehicle. It doesn’t engage your vehicle’s throttle or braking. It only provides alerts. No safety system can take the place of an alert and engaged driver.

Will Rear Park Assist automatically park my vehicle?

No. It’s not designed to park a vehicle, although it can help you judge distance from another vehicle when you’re backing into a parking space.

What can affect the ability of Rear Park Assist to perform properly?

Blocked sensors won’t detect objects and can also cause false detections. Keep your Rear Park Assist sensors clear. While their locations differ depending on the vehicle, in most cases, you can find them on or around your rear bumper.
