TROUBLESHOOTING AUTOMATIC PARKING ASSIST

This article is designed to help you troubleshoot potential issues with the following features: Automatic Parking Assist, Automatic Parking Assist with Braking and Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist.

Automatic Parking Assist
If your vehicle has this available feature, Automatic Parking Assist can search for and steer your vehicle into a parallel or perpendicular parking space. While the feature steers, you’ll brake, accelerate and follow directions to shift gears.

Automatic Parking Assist with Braking
If your vehicle has this available feature, Automatic Parking Assist with Braking can search for a parallel or perpendicular parking space, then steer and brake your vehicle into that space using limited braking. While it steers and tells you when to shift gears, you may need to override the feature’s limited braking.

Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist
If your vehicle has this available feature, Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist can search for a parallel or perpendicular parking space, then steer and brake your vehicle into that space while shifting gears as needed. It can also help you unpark your vehicle after parallel parking. While the feature parks or unparks, you need to remain in your vehicle and be prepared to override and take control.

AUTOMATIC PARKING ASSIST FEATURE WON’T TURN ON OR DETECT A PARKING SPACE

  • If your Automatic Parking Assist (APA) feature isn’t detecting a parking space, first make sure the feature is turned on. Depending on your vehicle, you can either press the APA button (labelled with the letter P with arrows pointing to two squares) or activate it on your infotainment system.
  • If the feature still isn’t working, make sure all the feature’s ultrasonic sensors are clean and aren’t covered by anything. The feature uses 12 sensors located on the front and rear bumpers that look like small, circular indentations. The feature won’t work properly if they are dirty or obstructed.

AUTOMATIC PARKING ASSIST FEATURE ISN’T WORKING

  • Automatic Parking Assist features will turn off if you hold the brake pedal for an extended period of time. You are responsible for braking as the system directs you while remaining alert to your vehicle’s surroundings.
  • Automatic Parking Assist features may turn off if you press the APA button (labelled with the letter P with arrows pointing to two squares) while the system is operating, depending on your vehicle.
  • Automatic parking will turn off if you steer or change gears manually without the system telling you to, if you accelerate too fast, and if you unbuckle your seat belt or open the driver’s door with your seat belt unfastened.

ENHANCED AUTOMATIC PARKING ASSIST WON’T UNPARK MY VEHICLE

  • Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist may not be able to unpark your vehicle in some situations. If there aren’t any vehicles or walls in front of your vehicle, the feature might not work. It may also not be able to unpark if the vehicle’s surroundings have changed significantly since you parked.
  • Shifting gears, unbuckling your seat belt or opening a door will override the unpark system. You will see a message on your infotainment display confirming the manoeuvre has been cancelled following one of those actions.

Safety or driver assistance features are no substitute for the driver’s responsibility to operate the vehicle in a safe manner. A driver should remain attentive to traffic, surroundings and road conditions at all times. Visibility, weather, and road conditions may affect feature performance. Read your Owner’s Manual for more important feature limitations and information.
